When you need this
Every workspace has exactly one owner. The owner is the only person who can manage billing, delete the workspace, or transfer it — so if that person leaves the team or hands the account to someone else, the workspace has to move with them.
Transferring is the supported way to do that. Nothing is recreated: projects, comments, share links, members, and the subscription all stay exactly where they are.
Who can transfer, and to whom
Only the current owner can transfer a workspace.
You can transfer to any member of the workspace who has a Huddlekit account. That includes Admins and Members. It does not include:
- Pending invitations — the person has to accept and become a member first.
- Guests — guests are not workspace members. See Sharing projects with guests.
How to transfer
- Open Members in the workspace sidebar.
- Find the person you want to hand the workspace to.
- Open the ⋯ menu on their row and choose Transfer ownership.
- Type the workspace name exactly as shown to confirm.
- Confirm the transfer.
The change is immediate.
What moves, and what does not
Moves to the new owner:
- Ownership of the workspace.
- Billing control — the new owner is the one who can open the billing portal to update the payment method, download invoices, or cancel.
- The ability to delete the workspace.
- The ability to transfer it again.
Stays where it is:
- The subscription itself. The plan, the renewal date, and the payment method are attached to the workspace, not to the person — so nothing is cancelled, re-charged, or interrupted by a transfer.
- Every project, comment, share link, tag, and member.
You become an Admin. Transferring does not remove you from the workspace. You keep full access to projects and members, and lose only the owner-specific abilities above. If you are leaving the team entirely, transfer first, then leave the workspace — leaving is blocked while you still own it.
Good to know
The workspace name confirmation is there because a transfer cannot be undone from your side. Once someone else owns the workspace, only they can transfer it back.
If two people try to transfer the same workspace at once, only the first one takes effect. The second is told the workspace has already moved and to reload to see who owns it now.
